I am always surprised how God uses these little furr babies to ground me in him. In saying my morning prayers, I was taught by my childhood preacher to thank and praise the lord, confess our sins, then ask for what we need. As I was going about this plan, knowing that I had been waiting on him to answer a few urgent needs- like finding good homes for my for sale puppies to pay some very REAL bills that were already past due, the Holy Spirit softly said to me, yes I know you are thankful for the things I've done for you, you even see me daily in the smallest of things but is the "action in your doing showing Thankful?" I stopped and started to connect the dots. I've known in God's economy how things work for the most part, just like on "how to pray" to get your needs met. I've known to check my heart to ensure my prayers are as genuine as possible when asking the Holy of All Holy! but is my daily behavior honoring and showing God I am truly Thankful? I've stated many times to most of my customers, how God operates my business, sends us families even- especially when we get the frequent question of : How do you let them go? I would want to keep all of them!? Our response is that God runs our business, we pray over our customers and puppies so when it all works out, we know it's Gods plan, when it doesn't? They weren't the right home for our baby? So giving him the credit for blessings hasn't really been the problem ever BUT, it is soo easy to get caught up in the business end of things. Updating websites, posting ads to various ad sites, updating videos and pics, facebook, twitter, dealing with vet appointments, paperwork, keeping stocked on supplies, gettting back to customers, etc. Yes, all of this necessary work and is responsible but honestly, the motive behind it can turn into "business mode" for me to pay those bills, plan for the holidays, etc. When the Holy Spirit began to deal with me it was about my motive behind my actions. Simply bathing and grooming my baby puppies lets me "savor" the quality, health, unique personality, in that puppy when a that customer God sends comes. It allows me to truly enjoy being home with my family for work and what a miracle and answered prayer that was for one of my deepest desires straight for heaven that totally changed my life! Funny how in that moment I instantly became humbled in realizing God is God, my fights are his fights, and my only job here is to enjoy the ride he has put me on.
i'm about to earn the title "glutten for punishment"!! I myself am expecting July 31st a little boy that we're naming Jax. Then starting June 20th thru early July we are expecting 5 litters of puppies!! all my girls came into heat, all at once!! Some are brand new breedings but we will literally have every single color a shihtzu can produce!!! Very RARE LAVENDERS, ROSE CREAMS, BLUE CREAMS, i'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT!!! and of course our signature-- Deep dark CHOCOLATES!!! WE WILL BE REMEMBERING OUR BELOVED GODIVA THIS MONTH WE LOST LAST YEAR WHO WAS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR BEAUTIFUL CHOCOLATE LINES THAT WE ARE SO VERY GRATEFUL FOR!!
after posting all my household recipes, i felt it couldn't be complete without a recipe for my favorite summer dog shampoo. I recycle a large shampoo bottle with a pump to store it in. Always shake before using!
1 cup dr bronners lavender castile soap 1/2 cup dr bronners eucalyptus soap 1/2 cup dr bronners peppermint soap 1/2 cup water 1 tbsp coconut oil 1 tbsp jojoba oil 1 tbsp sweet almond oil 1 tbsp vitamin E oil 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar 3/4 tbsp tea tree oil 2 tbsp glycerin
all these properties are anti-fungal that fight parasites like ring worm in wet or humid climates. these properties also naturally repel ticks, fleas, mosquitos, flies, and other parasites. After towel drying, follow up with a little more coconut oil to use as a conditioner- use sparingly though! working through with your hands, then brush out. I use lavender oil at every brushing to moisturize hair, add shine, repel bugs, and it smells sooo good!!
With temperatures heating up, I'm in the process of trimming down all my furr babies. Shihtzus can have very thick coats but that's what I love about mine! So, to help keep them cool I shave down completely their chest, tummy, and insides of all 4 legs. They love to stretch out in the shade or find a cool surface to lay on. If outside be very mindful to have clean water in a clean bowl for them at all times. Bacteria and parasites are ingested thru dirty water or bowls and cause awful, contagious illnesses! Speaking of pests, I'm a huge fan of Advantage Multi to keep away fleas, ticks, heartworms, and 4 other worms! If you're in the south like me or near heavy tick populations, I advise ramping that monthly treatment schedule to 3 weeks if using Advantage Multi. Talk to your vet depending on what topical treatment you use! To stay on this subject of unwanted pests, I've had some friends recently ask me for my recipes of homemade detergents and cleaners. Because of my business, I incorporate natural essential oils to help me prevent all pests that like my furr babies. Here are a few recipes to list!
disinfectant cleaner (i like to use a 1 gallon container and usually double the recipe- this is a concentrate!) 1 cup 90% alcohol, 2 cups water, 1 cup vinegar, half cup of dr. bronners sal suds, 1/4 cup peppermint soap, 1/4 cup eucalyptus soap, 10 drops tea tree oil, 10-20 essential oils. (lavender or citronella or both)- repel all mosquitos, fleas, flies, bugs.
Febreeze- fill 1/4 of a spray bottle with fabric softner, 10 drops essential oil, fill the rest of bottle with water. (i love lavender or linen softner with tangerine or sweet orange oil)
Laundry Detergent- again, I wash towels, dog bedding, dog blankets quite often so I adapt this to fit that specific need- optional is what that means! 1-5 gallon bucket w/lid(got mine at the hardware store if you don't have one!)
1 bar fels naptha soap 1 bar lava soap(sometimes found in automotive section of store) 1 cup sal suds 1 cup lavender soap,(can use eucalyptus, tea tree, or peppermint, or all 3 to equal the 1 cup *optional) 2 cups borax 2 cups washing soda directions: 1) boil 3/4 pot water in dutch oven. 2) grate or pulse chop in blender the bars of soap very fine. pour into water, stir until completely melted. 3) add borax & washing soda to bucket. When soap is melted pour in bucket. stir this until all powders are dissolved. 4) add your sal suds and liquid soap slowly and gently stir to not form bubbles. 5)run your sink water as hot as it will go, using your dutch oven fill the rest of the bucket with hot water- slowly to not cause bubbles. Cover with lid and let set up overnight. 6) this will be a very thick gel concentrate!!! spoon into your recycled liquid detergent bottle and add water to your desired consistency! I spent $94 dollars on a family of 6 plus my dog breeding business last year!!
Fabric Softner dryer sheets- get a gallon plastic container with airtight lid, and a package of sponges (4 to 6). fill container up about 1 1/2 inches with fabric softner and the rest of the way up with water, add sponges. Use sponges as dryer sheets in every load!
GLASS CLEANER- equal parts of alcohol, vinegar, and water in spray bottle. Newspapers don't streak or leave remnants of paper towel behind!
DRAIN CLEANER- 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar. after bubbling stops rinse with boiling water.
TOILET BOWL CLEANER- 1/2 cup baking soda in toilet, then add 1 cup vinegar. after bubbling scrub and rinse as usual.
FURNITURE POLISH- 1 cup veg. oil to 1/2 cup lemon juice. This is major shine polish meant to use on clean wood surfaces- buff in like lotion! a tiny bit goes a long way!
TOOTHPASTE- 1 tbsp of peppermint soap 5 tbsp of coconut oil, 2 tbsp of baking soda, 7 packs of stevia, 17 drops of sweet orange oil, 8 drops peppermint oil.
DEODERANT- 1/4 cup cornstarch, 1/4 cup baking soda, 2 tbsp coconut oil(melted) 2 vitamin E pills squeezed, essential oil or leave unscented. I pour this into recycled deoderant dispensers. May need to set up overnight.
There is nothing more fulfilling when knowing you helped make the perfect match between family and puppy personality. Anne Klein is going to an awesome family, the Kilmans in Edmond OK. They have 4 children and we will be making this delivery along with Santa a Christmas surprise!! This puppy is a bold, rowdy little girl, that reminds me so much of her grandmother- my beloved Godiva. Sassy, Sweet, Spunky, with the edge of her tongue sticking out. God feeds my soul through this business and only through him can this happen! He sends each customer to us, paying each bill, fulfilling each need, placing each baby we love so much. It never gets old! The lessons and faith it has taught my family on a daily basis is straight from heaven! Very grateful.
Thank you for joining me! I thought it only appropriate to open with a little about me and how we got here! I'm first and foremost a mom of 4 beautifull kids. When it comes to making a living the mom part always had to be compromised in that small detail of feeding them! I've battled through corporate america in everybusiness from marketing, advertising, insurance, the nursing home industry, to the casino for 15 years. At times I did enjoy the climb when streamlining, developing staff, etc. but it never once came without costing my kids and ultimately the person I was meant to be. I hated the way I had to watch my back, cover my tracks, and think of other people even when things were not in a crisis. When I prayed at night I felt like a hiprocrit. So, I quit!!! Yes, Quit!! I tightened our belt like never before, and went straight to my knees in prayer. This journey started as an intense search for the person God intended me to be and the purpose he had for my life as a mom of these 4 children, a woman's life he created -past, present, & future. After some very hard days & nights the clear message to do this breeding business was given to me of all places in the shower. Sometimes we laugh when something is revealed to us- especially a business that requires money when your not at that moment even making your bills! Isn't that just the beginning of the miracles through the journey!! Door after door, one by one, over the course of 3 years this business has been born from heaven. I'm continuously amazed at how I can truly love my job so much! Now, don't get me wrong, I still have those days that contain way to many cuss words and end with a very large glass of wine but truly, I would be so bored if things were heavenly all the time! Every litter of babies brings my family together, and even my 17 yr old son will talk to me about the puppies when everything else seems to end up in a disagreement. That litter then brings me to meet and get to know the most amazing people!! Fullfilling to describe this business is such an understatement and I know this blog will be too!! I hope you'll write me! If you have questions and I don't have the answer, I'll find the resources to answer.
